What is creativity?

Creativity is a very hard concept to define. i believe that anyone can be creative, in fact everyone IS creative at least at one point in their life. one could look at this question in a philosophical way as well.  maybe everyone is born with creativity and some embrace it throughout their lives and others choose not to use it. the people who practice being creative see the world in their own way. creativity to me is being original, having original ideas, and expressing them in some manner. creativity is highly seen in the art community but that is not the only place where it resides. many aspects in everyday life can express creativity. For example, writing a book, landscaping, or even cooking can be creative.

How can creativity be taught?

i believe that people are born with creativity, therefore teaching creativity is more so enhancing the creativity that is already there. creativity can be taught only to those who want to learn about it. Creativity would be extremely hard to teach to someone who does not see it as being important. you can utilize creativity just like any other skill you may have, therefore some people are better at it than others due to the fact that they practice it. creativity can obviously be enhanced/taught in the classroom setting. if creativity was not noticeably important then what would be the point of any art class for that matter? one can teach creativity by exposing others to new ways of thinking about almost anything in the world.

Why creativity NOW?  Why do you think creativity is especially important now?

creativity is more important now more than ever before. this is because our world is constantly changing. new ideas and technologies in the world are being explored every day. to understand and keep up with our world we have to look deeper into being creative.

How can technology (digital media) be used to implement creativity in learning through the visual art?

Technology can be used to implement creativity in learning visual arts in many ways. photoshop, illustrator, etc, were all made for the sole reason to be creative and make your own art. these programs can teach creativity because while using them you are exploring the tools and creating your very own piece of art. through manipulation of the shapes or letters one can experience many different creative aspects such as color, contrast, space, perspective, etc. this example on the right shows how graphic designers would use technology to be creative.

  2. I like your definition of creativity. It can be a really hard thing to define, and I think you did a really nice job of pinning it down.
